When Bill Taylor came up with the idea for Lock Up Your Sons and Daughters, a series of anti-queer propaganda films used to show the true face of homophobia, it was met with a cool response from some members of Vancouver's gay and lesbian community. Logorrhea. L-O-G-O-R-R-H-E-A. Logorrhea. Words like this are seldom used in everyday speech, but are frequently used during the National Spelling Bee. An annual affair broadcast live on ESPN, the National Spelling Bee represents the culmination of regional spelling champions all competing for a $12,000 cash prize and the all-important title as the nation's best speller. Spellbound captures this phenomenon wonderfully with nail-biting drama and humor. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, Spellbound is about big dreams, big words, and big hearts.
